Just a few weeks ago we had the pleasure of being introduced to Los Angeles based den.m bar, a denim lover’s dream come true. It is here where you have the opportunity to get a perfect pair of jeans tailored to your liking from a custom fitting to an array of other options pictured below. What impressed us the most is the amount of control someone would have over the choices as well as the high quality execution. We appreciate the meticulous process as well as the lost art of making things by hand, which den.m bar is keeping alive. Here’s an interview we did Derek Yip of den.m bar who breaks down the process as well answering a few of our other questions we had for him.

Or, you can skip all that and use our base models we have on hand.  We offer everything from super strong (and a bit rough) Cone denim, made in North Carolina, to soft and stretchy denim from Kurabo, Japan.  If you don’t see what you’re looking for in-store or online, just let us know and we’ll do our best to get our hands on whatever it is you seek.

CREATING A MEASUREMENT PROFILE:

We first start with a comprehensive set of measurements from your waist and hip size to the circumference of your ankles. (If you have your own favorite pair that’s seen better days, bring it in and we’ll create a one-off pattern from your original pair to ensure a perfect fit.)

CONSTRUCTION:

Once you select the fabric you want, we then chalk and cut the patterns by hand to make your own individual pair. It takes up to 19 different pieces, cut one at a time, to make your jeans. The pieces are then given to our master sewers who put it all together.

DELIVERY:

We promise a turnaround time of 2-3 weeks

SS: What kind of customization options do you offer?
DY: You can pretty much customize anything den.m bar.  You can customize your fabric, pocket lining, buttons, zippers, cuffs, extra pockets, custom tags, the skies the limit!

SS: How long should someone expect it to take to get their completed pair?
DY: On average it takes 2-3 weeks from the initial fitting to the jeans ready for pickup.

SS: How much should someone expect to pay when planning on getting their pair?
DY: Our handcrafted customizable denim starts at $255 which includes a 30 minute private consultation, a comprehensive measurement profile, extra fitting session to ensure your custom jeans fit you the way you want, and complementary options for you to customize your jeans.

SS: What has been the general reaction by customers?
DY: All our customers love the final product as what we create for them fits them perfectly. Not only that, they love how they can basically pick and choose what they want when we create their custom jeans.

SS: What other types of products do you offer?
DY: Besides custom jeans, we also offer ready to wear jeans, custom denim bow ties, ties, and wallets.
