Editorial: The Celebrity Effect

While we normally do not like to get wrapped up in celebrity trends it is hard to ignore their influence in streetwear and on consumers. In the past we’ve discussed Kanye West, Jay-Z and other celebrities who have been affiliated with streetwear in one way or another, however it is the likes of A$AP Rocky and other newer rappers who are having a larger influence. Brands like Black Scale, who A$AP has collaborated with and SSUR have gained significant notoriety and popularity after being seen worn by the New York rapper. While both brands may have been popular prior to being supported by A$AP Rocky, they have been catapulted into forefront of the media. We are impressed by the celebrity effect where single items can be transformed in to highly desired pieces just days after being worn by your favorite rapper, athlete, etc.

We would love to hear what our readers think of the celebrity effect. Do you keep up with the trends? Has a celebrity ever influenced your purchase decision? Which rapper’s brand do you like/dislike? Drop us a comment below.
